§ 01 — The Fundamentals

What SEO actually is — and isn't

SEO is the practice of engineering a website so search engines rank it above competitors for queries customers actually use. Done well, it compounds — every optimized page is an asset that pays back for years. Done poorly, it wastes budget and leaves rankings stuck at page 4.

What is SEO in digital marketing?

SEO blends technical infrastructure, content strategy, and authority building into a single discipline. It's the highest-ROI acquisition channel long-term because organic traffic keeps compounding long after paid budgets stop.

How search engines work

Google crawls, indexes, and ranks pages using 200+ signals. Understanding E-E-A-T (Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, Trust) is what separates sites that rank from sites that only hope to.

Organic vs paid search

Paid search buys visibility the moment you need it; organic earns visibility that sticks. The smartest strategies use both — paid to validate demand, organic to capture it for the long haul.

§ 02 — On-Page Engineering

On-page checklist I apply to every site

Every element on your page is a ranking signal you control. On-page SEO is the fastest-moving lever — fixes here produce visible results within weeks. This is the field-tested checklist I run across every client site.

H1 / H2 / H3 hierarchy

Header structure tells Google what the page is about and where keyword relevance lives. Clean hierarchy can lift rankings 10–20 positions on its own.

  • One unique H1 per page with the primary keyword
  • H2s as major section markers with secondary keywords
  • H3s for supporting detail and LSI terms
  • Never skip heading levels (H1 → H3)

Meta tags optimization

Title tags and meta descriptions are your organic ad copy in the SERP. A well-written title alone can lift CTR 15–30% without touching actual rankings.

  • Title tag 50–60 chars, keyword-forward
  • Meta description 150–160 chars with a clear CTA
  • Open Graph tags for social-share lift
  • Unique meta on every page — no duplication

Content optimization

Content is the product Google sells to searchers. Pages need to satisfy intent, achieve topical depth, and signal authority — all three, not just one.

  • Target keyword in the first 100 words
  • LSI & semantic keywords distributed naturally
  • 800+ words minimum for competitive queries
  • FAQ sections targeting long-tail variations

Internal linking strategy

Internal links distribute authority across your site and tell Google which pages matter most. A strategic silo structure can double crawl efficiency.

  • Pillar page → cluster page topic silos
  • Keyword-rich anchor text on internal links
  • Zero orphan pages — every page linked from ≥1 other
  • 3–5 contextual internal links per 1,000 words

Landing page optimization

Landing pages need to rank AND convert. SEO-first landing pages consistently outperform ad-first designs by 40%+ in organic CTR.

  • Above-fold keyword placement + value prop
  • Page speed under 2.5s LCP (Core Web Vital)
  • Structured data for rich snippet eligibility
  • Mobile-first responsive layout

Schema & structured data

Schema markup unlocks rich snippets — review stars, FAQ dropdowns, breadcrumbs — that can double organic CTR without moving actual rankings. Free real estate.

  • Organization + LocalBusiness schema
  • FAQ and HowTo schema for featured snippets
  • Product schema with pricing + availability
  • BreadcrumbList for site navigation clarity
§ 04 — Local & Map Pack

Local SEO: showing up where buyers are

46% of all Google searches carry local intent. If your business isn't ranking in the Map Pack's top 3, you're invisible to nearly half your potential customers. Local SEO fixes this through GBP optimization, NAP consistency, citations, and review velocity.

Google Business Profile optimization

  • Category selection + service area definition
  • Weekly post publishing with keywords
  • Service + product catalog population
  • Q&A seeding and monitoring
  • Photo upload strategy (10+ monthly)
  • Review request automation and response

Citation & NAP consistency

  • 50+ high-authority local directory listings
  • NAP audit across all existing citations
  • Industry-specific directory submissions
  • Schema markup (LocalBusiness + Geo)
  • Embedded Google Maps on service pages
  • City-specific landing pages for multi-location
§ 05 — Technical Foundation

Technical SEO: the foundation every tactic stands on

If Googlebot can't crawl, render, or index your site correctly, nothing else matters. Technical SEO is where I start every engagement — because fixing a broken foundation gives you a 30–60% uplift before anyone writes a single word of content.

Core Web Vitals

LCP, CLS, and INP are Google's UX ranking signals. Sites failing thresholds get ranking penalties in both mobile and desktop results.

  • LCP under 2.5s (image + JS optimization)
  • CLS under 0.1 (layout-shift audits)
  • INP under 200ms (interactive responsiveness)

Crawlability & indexing

Controlling what Googlebot sees and indexes is half the battle. Crawl budget waste kills mid-size sites before they ever rank.

  • robots.txt + XML sitemap architecture
  • Canonicals, hreflang, pagination signals
  • Log-file analysis for crawl efficiency

Mobile & JS SEO

Google indexes mobile-first. Heavy JS frameworks (React, Vue, Next.js) need server-side or static rendering or they ship blank HTML to crawlers.

  • Mobile-first responsive audits
  • SSR / SSG / ISR strategy for JS sites
  • Structured data validation across devices
§ 06 — Keyword Research

Keyword research: finding the demand before chasing it

Keywords reveal what your exact customers are searching for, in what volume, with what intent, and at what competitive cost. Strong keyword research front-loads every SEO decision with real data — not guesses.

Intent mapping

Every keyword belongs to one of four intent buckets — informational, navigational, commercial, transactional. Ranking for the wrong intent wastes the traffic even when you win it.

Competitor gap analysis

The fastest wins come from keywords your competitors already rank for that you don't. Gap analysis surfaces 50–200 quick-win opportunities in most audits.

Long-tail prioritization

Head terms get the glory; long-tails get the conversions. 70% of all searches are long-tail queries with higher intent and lower competition.

§ 10 — Questions

SEO FAQ

How long does SEO take to show results?
Most sites see meaningful movement in 3–6 months — technical fixes and on-page improvements often produce lifts in the first 4–8 weeks. Competitive head terms typically need 6–12 months. Anyone promising rankings in 30 days is either lying or using shortcuts that will get the site penalized.
Do you guarantee first-page rankings?
No one should. Google's algorithm has 200+ signals and updates multiple times a year. What I guarantee is the methodology, the deliverables, the transparency of reporting, and the track record — 150+ keywords ranked top 10 across 50+ client sites.
What's the difference between SEO and Google Ads?
Google Ads buys traffic the moment you turn on the budget; the moment you turn it off, it stops. SEO earns traffic that compounds over time — every optimized page is an asset that keeps paying back. The best strategies use both: paid to validate demand quickly, organic to capture it durably.
Will you work with my existing website or do I need a new one?
Almost always your existing site. I'll do a full audit and recommend fixes. Migrations are disruptive and risky — I only recommend them when the current platform has fundamental SEO limitations that can't be solved any other way.
Do you handle international or multi-language SEO?
Yes. I currently optimize for DACH (Germany/Austria/Switzerland), UK, and India markets — including hreflang implementation, translated content strategy, and country-specific link building. Relocating to Germany in 2026, so European SEO is a core focus.
How do you report progress?
Monthly performance report covering traffic, keyword movement, backlinks acquired, conversions, and actions taken. Growth and Enterprise clients also get live Looker Studio dashboards for real-time visibility.
